“Debut” at Erasmus Darwin Academy
Students from Year 7 to Year 13 at Erasmus Darwin Academy delighted audiences on three successive nights last week in a fabulous production, “Debut”. The production was arranged around the theme of musicals, with students performing a series of songs, dance numbers and drama sketches from classic and modern musical theatre.
The standard of singing, dancing and acting was superb, and everyone was very impressed with the professional presentation of the production as a whole.
Particular mention should be made of Adam Pritchard, Lucy Brotherton and many others from the Year 10 GCSE Drama group who took a leading role in so many numbers, including from “Les Miserables”, “We Will Rock You” and “Wicked”. Solos from some of our youngest students were truly magical: it’s clear that Ella George and Libby Edwards from Year 7 will be rising stars in the future!
Bernice Astling, Principal, said:
“‘Debut’ is proof that Erasmus Darwin Academy continues its tradition of outstanding achievement in the performing arts. Audiences greatly enjoyed this wonderful production and they were bowled over by the range of talent amongst our students.”
This was the first production as Director by Mrs Olivia Purkiss, who joined the staff of Erasmus Darwin Academy last September. “Debut” was a triumph, and both students and their parents look forward to productions of an equally high standard in thefuture.
