Academic excellence is very important at our Academy, but our school also promotes a distinctive ethos and strong values. At Erasmus Darwin Academy, we believe that young people thrive in an orderly, well-disciplined environment. Our formal ethos is reflected through our traditional Academy Uniform and in the courtesy that we expect from our students on a daily basis. This is a happy school and a friendly place to study and work. We care for young people well and we enjoy working with them.
Our students follow a wide range of subjects in Years 7 and 8 in order to build a strong foundation to their secondary education. From the start of Year 9, students follow their optional subjects as well as the essential core subjects, so they then spend three years preparing for public examinations in Year 11. We encourage all our students to get involved in a range of learning experiences outside the classroom in order to develop their identity and their talents. We have a great sporting tradition at the Academy as well as real strength in Music, Drama and Art. Educational visits in the UK and abroad are a regular feature of the academic calendar, and we also promote Outdoor Education, including the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Through such experiences, students learn the importance of leadership, teamwork and collaboration, preparing them well for their future lives in an increasingly complex world.
We have adopted the values of the Olympics and Paralympic s as our Academy Values:
