Pupil Premium funding is additional money provided by the Government to schools to reduce the attainment gap between disadvantaged students and their peers. Pupil Premium funding is allocated according to the number of students receiving free school meals, the number of students who are ‘looked-after’ and those students who enter secondary education on Level 3 or below. It also includes support for ‘service children’, whose parents are active members of the Armed Forces.
At Erasmus Darwin Academy, Pupil Premium money is used in a wide range of schemes that will promote progress and ensure that each student reaches their full potential. Students benefit from English and Maths mentoring, additional lesson support and intensive revision and exam preparation timetables. Pupil Premium funding ensured that all Year 8 students on free schools meals or ‘looked-after’ students were able to attend the Y8 Challenge residential visit. From September 2013, Pupil Premium will ensure that students in Year 7 who entered the Academy with attainment below expectations will enjoy additional support via the Star Group provision.
